Zebra were engaged by ad agency Arcade to create a refreshed brand identity for much loved coffee house Gloria Jean’s. Arcade had developed a brand story based on Gloria Jean’s real life Chicago roots and from this we helped humanise the brand by way of a 1950’s inspired illustration of Gloria herself. We commissioned LA-based Drew Melton to re-create our initial lettering and illustration for the final logos.
We then developed an eclectic, colourful brand look to reflect the whimsical, tenacious and youthful spirit that Gloria is known for. We applied this look to everything from store fronts and interiors to staff uniforms, menu boards, coffee packaging, mugs, takeaway cups, coasters, napkins and even the website.
Just before the new ownership deal had been finalised, Gloria Jean’s decided not to sell. This meant that three months of our hard work would potentially never see the light of day. However we’ve decided to show some of the branding work here. Even though it was unused, the client loved the work.
